Electricity At Ezulwini

LOADSHEDDING – Please note that South Africa is currently experiencing loadshedding or rolling black-outs.  At the moment, the country is between Stage 2 and 6 of loadshedding which means no electricity for a few to several hours a day.  We do our best to keep guests informed and have a schedule printed with the stages of loadshedding at present.  Unfortunately, the schedule is unpredictable, and can change at a moments notice.  This is out of our control and we do apologize for the inconveniences this may cause.  However, please note that there are generators at both lodges.  The generators will be turned on during reasonable work hours (5AM to 11PM).  These will only run lights and fans, and not outlets.  Guests will have to plan to charge their electronics during non-loadshedding times.

ADAPTERS & CONVERTERS – Standard voltage in South Africa is 230V.

South African outlets are round 3-pin, 15Amp plugs. Guests may like to consider a step-down power converter (these convert voltage from 220/240v to 110/120v) especially for laptops, chargers and electric razors as recommended.

Photo shown is of typical 3-pin adapters required in South Africa.  These can be purchased on Amazon, or travel shops at International Airports. Adapters advertised for Africa, may not be the correct adapter for South Africa. Please note that Ezulwini Game Lodges does not stock adapters.

All rooms at Ezulwini Lodges are equipped with USB points should you wish to bring charging cables.

POWER BANKS – Due to ongoing “load shedding” issues in South Africa (power is interrupted regularly), we recommend investing in a power bank to ensure an alternative power supply should you require electronic or medical devices to be charged during these down periods.

TORCHES/FLASHLIGHTS – It is advisable to pack a small torch/flashlight as during late night/early hours of “load shedding” (power interruptions), rooms and pathways can be quite dark. However, all rooms at Ezulwini Game Lodges are equipped with a rechargeable, emergency light.

CPAP MACHINES/MEDICAL DEVICES – Due to power issues in South Africa and Africa wide, electricity service may be interrupted regularly (referred to as load shedding – the lodge will provide details upon your arrival).  We recommend bringing a power bank with you to ensure an uninterrupted supply to your CPAP machine/other device and suggest that you closely follow the manufacturers guidelines for this.

Water At Ezulwini

DRINKING WATER – There is potable drinking water at Ezulwini Game Lodges.  Reverse Osmosis water filtration systems have been installed at both lodges (used for tea & coffee making as well all drinking water served).

Tap water is also potable and sourced from a certified well. It may be high in minerals such as calcium, therefore guests may not like the taste.

Guests are also provided with their own personal Ezulwini drinking/water bottle which can be refilled at the RO Water Machines at the lodges.  The owners of Ezulwini Lodges have taken the opportunity to limit the number of plastic bottles used at our lodges, by providing our guests with their own re-usable keepsake water bottle in order to lessen their environmental impact and reduce their carbon footprint.
