"Beyond Expectation of a much-anticipated Bucket List trip!!! There are no words to describe our experience. The staff was beyond expectations. They really pay attention to detail & cater to your wants & needs. We saw so much wildlife on drives but could have stayed at the lodge & still seen just as much. How can you put into words the experience of sitting on your deck and watching baboons run across the river, elephants stroll by, or even the monkeys who wanted to steal your items lol. Our Trackers and Guides were so knowledgeable. They would share with us what they were tracking, how they knew how fresh the tracks were, and how to know the difference. Richard & Hector and Frances & Conrad made sure we saw the Big 5, and more, and have a once in a lifetime experience. At River Lodge, Ang and Craig shared so much about the history of the lodge and the culture of South Africa. The love they have for their job and the area shines through. Glory welcomes you every morning with warm cloths after your morning drive and with a nice cocktail when you arrive from your evening drive and addresses every need and want in between. At Billy's Lodge we were greeted by Knox and Sue who made sure we were pampered start to finish. Our accommodations were far beyond expectations. After all, we are in the bush. Our bungalows were always spotless. I would be negligent if I didn't mention the behind-the-scenes staff. The food was 5-star. The hospitality, housekeeping, grounds staff, often unseen, but always appreciated. They made the experience so memorable. This bucket list trip will always remain a top experience of ours and we may just return again. We have shared this experience with so many and other friends are looking to make the journey. Ezulwini Game Lodges - Billy's and River Lodge "Upon arrival, from the very first moment we arrived we felt like family. Sue and Knox are amazing hosts at Billy's Lodge and accommodated our every wish. The food was wonderful, the surrounds are teeming with wildlife and the game drives are both fun and informative. We saw the Big 5 and most of the Ugly 5. There is an observation tower and then the skywalk deck out to the watering hole. Both excellent for viewing local wildlife at a safe distance. Our hut was comfortable and cozy. We love the rondawels. Be sure to visit the wine cellar and learn the history of both the lodge and the surroundings. The second half of our stay was at The River Lodge where Glory continued to treat us like family (and royalty). Angie and Craig were amazing hosts as well. We stayed in an upgraded suite and were very comfortable. The room is large with a private plunge pool and an outdoor shower. Such wonderful accommodations! The food at the River Lodge was equally delicious and the game drives provided up close glimpses into the bush. The skywalk at the River Lodge is nothing short of amazing. Built to observe wildlife passing by as well as in the river, the River Lodge offers an exclusive view of the wild life nearby. Our experience at Ezulwini exceeded our expectations. When you plan a safari vacation, you might be expecting a close-up experience with animals you’ve never before seen in the wild. And we certainly did see the Big 5, including the black rhino and many, many more animals, more closely than we ever could have imagined. But what you may not expect is world class service before, during and after each of your game drives. Getting to see the sunrise and the sunset every day for a week in an open air vehicle is good for the soul. Breathing fresh, clean air and eating wonderfully prepared meals enhances the experience. And then to have such luxury accommodations to come back to after being out in the wild for most of the day was just icing on the cake. Each return visit promised a cheerful greeting from the folks at the lodge that become like family members while we were there. The Ezulwini Daily "Gnus" SAFARI HIGHLIGHT: Our current guests were rewarded with an incredible sighting of 9 lions feeding on a young hippo only a stone's throw from River Lodge. We are not sure how the hippo was killed but the pride made quick work of it. The crocodiles and vultures were lying in wait, patiently observing the lions' dominance over the carcass. Ezulwini topped all of my expectations. Absolutely gorgeous lodges and rooms. Attentive, kind, knowledgeable staff who felt like old friends by the time we left. The Safari guides were top notch and our game drives felt like a week's journey to find a leopard, which we did the day before we departed! The food was delicious and the kitchen staff catered to me in the bush better than any urban restaurant as I am gluten, dairy and egg free. Ezulwini and Africa and all the animals cast a spell on us, and we will be back to visit again. Since I have returned to "real life" I keep dreaming of our magical safari. Even my 12 year old didn't care that the WIFI was spotty- it was that amazing. Great for every member of our family from 12 to 86. The Kudyela Pride along with the Masungulo male managed to capture two impalas. One of which was shared by the pride, while the other, was for the king only. Squabbling ensued among the females and the cubs for what little meat was to be shared among them. Their meal disappeared in minutes while that of the male was savored all day long. They may "team up" with other zebras to form super herds, especially in areas where migration is key to their survival. Although at the peak of the dry season, animals are resilient and are managing to source graze & browse when needed.
